Host Blimp Atrocity

UPDATE 3/4/2006 Everything’s back up and running. Got a few good recommendations for a new web host. I think I’ll wait until the next collapse before I move, though — it’s too much of a time suck.

UPDATE 11:30PM: Still no email. Looks like I’ll definitely need to be moving my hosting business elsewhere.

UPDATE 7:30PM: They are still open for business, and they are aware of the problems. Still no resolution in sight.

Host Blimp, the hosting company that hosts my sites (including Yabfog and OPML Community) appears to have abandoned their business, or at the very least, fallen off a cliff.

  • No email can be sent to domains hosted at Host Blimp
  • MySQL is down again, so no sites hosted at Host Blimp that run a MySQL backend are functional.

So why don’t I just contact them? Because the only way to contact then is via email — and the email does not go through! They have no phone number. I’m totally screwed!

I’m looking for suggestions for a good web host.

Requirements:

  1. Unix/Linux OS
  2. The “standard” reseller-type features:
    1. Unlimited domains
    2. Unlimited subdomains
    3. Unlimited email accounts
    4. Total DNS control
    5. Decent HD space and bandwidth
    6. You get the picture
  3. SSH Access
  4. Priced less than $40/month (I’m currently paying half that, but obviously that doesn’t buy me adequate service.)

Please post your suggestions in the comments.
